Summary

They are the stories we've known since we were children。 RapunzelHansel and GretelCinderellaSleeping Beauty。 But the works originally collected by the Brothers Grimm in the early 1800s are not necessarily the versions we heard before bedtime。 They're darker and often don't end very happily—but they're often far more interesting。

This elegant edition of Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales includes all our cherished favorites—Snow WhiteRumpelstiltskinLittle Red Cap, and many more—in their original versions。 With specially designed end papers, a genuine leather cover, and other enhancements, it's the perfect gift for anyone looking to build a complete home library。

Many of these tales begin with the familiar refrain of “once upon a time”—but they end with something unexpected and fascinating!

Pretty atrocious。 Racist, anti-semitic, anti-woman, anti-man (given said man is a peasant rather than a king)。 Also blasphemous, treating God not much different than a fairy there to grant wishes。

I love the cover! The book itself is good。 Nothing like the Disney movies。

🧚‍♀️Las historias que recordamos de nuestra infancia, tal y como se las contaban a los niños y a las niñas hace años, sin tapujos, sin el toque edulcorado de Disney, macabros y duros。 Como la vida misma。

The tales make no sense at all。。。 they are oddly creepy, reading it makes you feel like those confusing dreams, that are for some reason scary。 They are really weird tales, and I can’t help but say don’t waist your time on a book like this。 And this is a children’s book, I don’t know what kid would ever want to finish this。 The books are either weirdly long or annoyingly short! WEIRD BOOK。

Give it to the germans to have children's fairy tales with concepts like padeophilia。 But the lessons and metaphorical angles are deep。 My favourite of all folk tales out there。 Give it to the germans to have children's fairy tales with concepts like padeophilia。 But the lessons and metaphorical angles are deep。 My favourite of all folk tales out there。 。。。more

Ok, so this was partially a nostalgia-inducing read。 Can't believe so many of the stories I had encountered in my childhood are from the Grimm Brothers' collection。 This compilation has many popular favourites in their original complete form。 Some of the stories are absolutely beautiful while others are really gruesome。 I had heard that the cruelty and violence in original versions of some of the tales led to the Grimms eventually sanitising them。 So this book really made me wonder how much dark Ok, so this was partially a nostalgia-inducing read。 Can't believe so many of the stories I had encountered in my childhood are from the Grimm Brothers' collection。 This compilation has many popular favourites in their original complete form。 Some of the stories are absolutely beautiful while others are really gruesome。 I had heard that the cruelty and violence in original versions of some of the tales led to the Grimms eventually sanitising them。 So this book really made me wonder how much darker or gorier the original folk tales would have been。 Of course, the stories are really imaginative and do hold your attention。 For a collection that is more than 200 years old, it's a big achievement to be remembered and read even when the world has changed so much since its original publication。 Then again, the problem with the stories remains the same today as it was originally: most of the stories are chauvinistic。 The female characters hardly ever have a voice of their own, their only purpose in life is to be married off, and those women who do speak their mind are evil witches or vamps。 So this isn't a collection that has adapted to the mentality of the 21st century。 Read it only for a glimpse back into your childhood and nothing else。 This is a just-for-fun nostalgic experience, no morals or life lessons to be found here。***********************Join me on the Facebook group, Readers Forever!, for more reviews, book-related discussions and fun。Follow me on Instagram: RoshReviews 。。。more

Now I know for sure, I am a child inside。 27 years old and I still can enjoy grimm's fairy tales。 Some stories are absurd, some scary and has a bitter end。 This book can be a stimulant for childhood。 To grow imagination and to face reality as it is。 Now I know for sure, I am a child inside。 27 years old and I still can enjoy grimm's fairy tales。 Some stories are absurd, some scary and has a bitter end。 This book can be a stimulant for childhood。 To grow imagination and to face reality as it is。 。。。more

Some of these stories are REALLY good and some of them are REALLY bad。 Usually the longer ones are better and they definitely feel like great, classic stories。 There are some outliers, though。 Overall it was a fun read。Favorite stories:RapunzelCinderellaThe Devil with the Three Golden HairsThe Two BrothersHow Six Men Got On in the World

I recently purchased this book in a effort to be more rounded in my knowledge of the classics。 I am also building a personal library of classic, well known, literature。 I am very happy with this publisher I have also purchased other publications by this company featureing other authors。 As of this writing I have read "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", "Cinderella, and "Little Red Cap" (Red Riding Hood) I included this work in my acquisition of "classics" because I wanted to read these tales in the I recently purchased this book in a effort to be more rounded in my knowledge of the classics。 I am also building a personal library of classic, well known, literature。 I am very happy with this publisher I have also purchased other publications by this company featureing other authors。 As of this writing I have read "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", "Cinderella, and "Little Red Cap" (Red Riding Hood) I included this work in my acquisition of "classics" because I wanted to read these tales in their original form, not reinterpreted by Disney or other modern producers/publishers throughout the centuries。 In my opinion, Canterbury Classics is a great way to build a library of quality classic works, The Brothers Grimm being a chief contributor。 I will continue to buy these kinds of books from them as I continue to build my own personal library。 The introductions of some of these works by various intellectuals, in this case Ken Mondschein, seems biased and devoid of any spiritual connections。 Here Mondschen gives great historical context of the combination of tales but fails to provide adequate comparison to the spiritual nature of the culture of the day。 He does acknowledge the Grimm brothers to be christians but fails to evaluate how that would impact their retelling or gathering of the folklore。 Mondschen, does however present a more well rounded perspective compared to some of the other introductions of these publications。 That being said the quality of the physicality of this particular publication is not perfect but for the money is quite good。 I very much enjoy it。 。。。more

I enjoyed reading all the tales。 I was nostalgic as they reminded me of childhood books and I realized I had heard or read some of the tales in my vernacular/mothertongue。

Interesante leer los cuentos en los que se baso Disney。Los cuentos más cortos son lo que más se me quedaron 😆。

It's great knowing the origin of some of the stories I grew up liking e。g。 Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Beauty and the Beast but a lot of these are actually boring and some are quite repetitive。 It's a miracle I got to the end and didn't quit。 It's great knowing the origin of some of the stories I grew up liking e。g。 Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Beauty and the Beast but a lot of these are actually boring and some are quite repetitive。 It's a miracle I got to the end and didn't quit。 。。。more

Can’t go wrong with this book

*Review from my 10 year old*What could you possibly say about this book? It's um。。。hm。。。I liked all of the different stories。 One of my favorite stories was Hansel and Gretel。 It was a little different from what I was told, but it's still my favorite story。 I didn't like the part where they changed Gretel's name to Gretchel。 That was confusing。 *Review from my 10 year old*What could you possibly say about this book?
